The school included classroom lectures and practical sessions. It was instructed by the foremost auger boring experts in the country. Sponsors of TTC Auger Boring School were, Barbco, U.S. Shoring & Equipment Co., Baroid Industrial Drilling Products, Brierley Associates, Midwest Mole, Trinity Products, Logan Clay Products, Wicker Construction, IDS GeoRadar, and Huxted Tunneling. The course covered all aspects of auger boring projects from design to construction, with special focus on safety. In conjunction with the third TTC Auger Boring School, Dr. Tom Iseley and Dr. Les Guice, President of Louisiana Tech University, presented the first TTC Life-Time Achievement Awards to Leo and Jim Barbera at a ban- quet. Dr. Guice was the department head of Civil Engineering in 1988 when he hired Dr. Iseley and helped to establish the TTC. He had the opportunity to work with Leo on several research projects and Leo served on the original TTC Industry Advisory Board, which was estab- lished in 1991. Leo Barbera was the founder of American Augers in 1970 and Jim (his brother) worked for him then established Barbco in 1989. ABS Field and Classroom Activities Left to Right: Dr. Tom Iseley, Leo Barbera, Jim Barbera, Dr. Les Guice This year, the IAB heard from several students, including senior students in the construction engineering technology program, members of the Louisiana Tech Chapter of the NASTT and graduate students, who made presentations and discussed their experiences with the Center. After learn- ing more about the student research going on throughout the Center, the board discussed opportunities to become involved with current research and to recruit TTC graduates to their firms. At the meeting, Bruce Jameson from ACE Pipe Cleaning completed his tenure as IAB Chair and Tom Wynne from the City of New York was elected as the new chair. We thank Bruce for his leadership the past two years! If you are interested in learning more about the IAB or joining the board, please contact TTC Director, Dr. John Matthews at .
